Roller Coaster Museum’s Largest Exhibit Begins to Rise in West Texas
Second inversion from Canobie Corkscrew to become the future gateway for museum visitors
The National Roller Coaster Museum and Archives (NRCMA), the world’s largest collection of historic amusement ride vehicles, is excited to announce construction has started on its largest exhibit to date: the second corkscrew inversion from the retired Canobie Lake Corkscrew. This impressive display will soar over the entrance to the parking lot, welcoming visitors from around the world.
The coaster began its life as the “Chicago Loop” at Old Chicago in Bolingbrook, IL. It was one of the largest indoor roller coasters of its time and was the second-ever Arrow Development “corkscrew” model to be built. It was retired at Canobie Lake Park in 2022 and carefully dismantled, before being shipped via six semi-trailers to the museum.
Significant contributions from American Coaster Enthusiasts, Amusement Today, Canobie Lake Park, Northwest Coasters, Simpson Strong-Tie and Jeff Novotny helped defray some of the significant cost of dismantling, shipping and reinstalling the corkscrew element.
